Theater Stage


Theater and Arts Rooms

Slayton House is designed primarily as a center for the arts for all ages. While theater, tap, ballet and modern dance classes are held in the Wilde Lake Room and Dance Studio, the lobby and Bill White Room house the Slayton House Gallery with art exhibits changing every four weeks.

The theater (Gene Weiss Room) is equipped with all the necessary accoutrements to produce a stage play, musical recital or dance performance. The 630 square foot handicapped accessible stage is equipped with full sound and lighting capabilities.
Theater seating
With the electronically released tiered seating in place the theater can accommodate an audience of 240. The stage set-up is complete with dressing rooms, green room, and a set construction room with loading dock. Our technical director is available to assist with sound and lighting demands.
Theater screen
A retractable standard size movie screen also allows cinema and power point presentations. An LCD projector is available to rent.

When not in use as a theater, the Gene Weiss Room can accommodate corporate meetings in three different set-up styles. The room is complete with built-in standard size movie screen and an LCD projector is available for rental. The room will accommodate 240 with theater style seating, 85 in a classroom style (rectangular tables) and 140 at round tables.

Social Events


Theater dining
The Gene Weiss Room is easily converted for social events such as wedding receptions, birthday and anniversary parties. The stage can be used for a band or DJ, or a head table for a banquet or reception. The room will accommodate 110 – 115 at 5’ round tables with a dance floor or 125 – 140 with no dance floor. Easy accessibility to our licensed kitchen makes the room ideal for catered events.

Chaperone ratio – 1 adult/10 teens
Name, Address and Telephone number of chaperones is required before the event
Two (2) private security guards must be in attendance during the entire function


Kitchen

There is easy accessibility from our licensed kitchen to all rooms used for social or business events. Kitchen facilities include a warming oven, refrigerator and ice machine. The cost of using the kitchen is included in social room rentals.

Ideal for small business meetings or social gatherings – can accommodate 45 in a classroom style, 24-conference style or at round tables.

Dance studio

The Dance Studio

This 1,500 square foot room is used primarily for dance and exercise classes. It has two mirrored walls with ballet bars and a floating wooden floor.

The Wilde Lake Room

The 500 square foot room is generally used for tap classes. It has one mirrored wall with ballet bar. Small meetings are also held in the room and it can accommodate up to 35 in a classroom style. This room is also very popular for toddler birthday parties after productions of Rainbow Theater. (see Events)

General Rental Conditions

Unless requested and specified in the contract, there is no exclusive use of the building.

Security deposits must be paid in full at contract execution.

Rental fees are due three weeks prior to the event. If paid within three weeks of the event, payments must be made in cash or certified check.

A liability insurance policy must be provided in the amount $1,000,000 listing the Wilde Lake Community Association and the Columbia Association as co-insured before the event if food and beverages are being served. All dance and theater instructors must also provide proof of $1,000,000 in liability insurance.

All room decorations affixed to walls or fixtures must be approved in advance.

All decorations, food and beverages, supplies and equipment must be removed before you leave the building unless previously approved by the Facilities Coordinator.

A liquor license is required if you are selling alcoholic beverages; these are only issued to non-profit organizations by the Howard County Liquor Board.

A security deposit is required to hold a room, date and time.

Cancellation Policy

In the event of cancellation before the balance of the room fee is due (three weeks before the event) 50% of the room deposits will be forfeited. Cancellation within three weeks of the event will result in full forfeiture of the rental fee.
